Myanmar Travel Information


Formerly known as Burma is bordered by India and Bangladesh to its west, Thailand and Laos to its east and China to its north bordering  and northeast. 

It is located in southeast asia bordering the Andaman Sea and the Bay of Bengal south. With population about 54 million, wide diversity of ethnicities as many as 135 ethnic groups with diverse cultures, own dialects and traditions and historic background. 

The 8 major groups are Bamar, Chin, Shan, Karen, Rakhine, Mon, Kayah and Kachin.  Myanmar has great diversity cultures, religion and long and complex history.  

Geographically, Myanmar is blessed abundantly with many natural resources, from snow capped mountain to unspoilt beaches, islands, valleys, scenic mountains and hills, fertile wetlands attracting visitors as so much to see and experience.


Myanmar requires a visa which you can obtain from Myanmar embassy and consulate or apply E visa online. You can also ask the travel agent to assist you with obtaining E visa. Each entry visa is valid for 30 days starting from the day you enter the country. The international points of entry and exit Myanmar are Yangon International Airport and Mandalay International Airport and Naypyidaw International Airport.  currently it is also allowed border crossing overland with Thailand and India. (Kawthaung Land Border Checkpoint with Thailand,Myawaddy Land Border checkpoint with Thailand,Tachileik Land Border checkpoint with Thailand,Rih KhawDar Land Border Checkpoint with India,Tamu Land Border Checkpoint with India). The border crossing with Laos is remote and permission to cross remains uncertain, and the borders with both Bangladesh and China are closed to foreigners. 


Myanmar currency is known as “ Kyat “ which is indicated as MMK.  Foreigner are recommended to bring US Dollars into Myanmar. Credit Cards are only accepted at major hotels, airlines and some international shops and restaurants. Usually a fee is charged for credit card transactions.Traveller’s cheques cannot be cashed. Most lodgings are payable in US dollars where MMK is used for most expenses in Myanmar. Exchange can be easily make  at  airport, hotels, bank or exchange counters.


Myanmar  has tropical season and the best time to travel is from November to February . The hottest month of the year  is from March to May.  However, it can get crowded over the winter season so also consider the rainy season  as option to enjoy monsoon season special rates.
